Background
The Periodic Table of the Elements arranges all known chemical elements by their atomic numbers, starting with hydrogen (1) in the top left corner and extending to oganesson (118). Each element has a unique atomic number that identifies its place in this arrangement.
Game Objective
Your goal is to identify today's Mystery Element by strategically narrowing down possibilities one element at a time.
How to Play
Starting the Game
- You begin with a deck of cards, one for each element in the periodic table
- Each card shows information about its element, but NOT its atomic number
- Success depends on your chemistry knowledge, understanding of card trivia, deductive reasoning, and some luck
Making Your Moves
View the top card and swipe in one of three directions:
- →If you think the element on the card has a higheratomic number than the Mystery Element, swipe right.
- ←If you think the element on the card is lower, swipe left.
- ↑If you think the element on the card is the Mystery Element, swipe up.
Narrowing Down the Range
- Correct "higher/lower" guesses help narrow the possible range
- The lowest correctly guessed "higher" element becomes your upper bound
- The highest correctly guessed "lower" element becomes your lower bound
- The possible range is shown with colorful borders in the table
- Grey squares indicate elements that are out of bounds
Direct Guesses
You can guess the Mystery Element directly by either:
- Swiping up on a card
- Using the "Guess answer" form below the table
